I’ve always had a thing for words—reading and writing them, hearing and speaking them. Writing and teaching flow naturally from my love of language and my enthusiasm for sharing what I know.

I teach business writing, grammar, style, and editing at the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University. Through my company, Green Fuse Inc., I also deliver customized workshops to diverse clients eager to improve their business writing.

Whatever I’ve been engaged in—whether it’s teaching English in Ecuador, working as a magazine editor, presenting a weekly radio column, managing the office of a college president, or running Green Fuse—there’s always been one common theme: working with words. I wrote Good Writing Is Good Business to share with others what I have learned in my rich and diverse career.

I’ve written or edited many, many things—from poems to magazine articles to annual reports to speeches to curriculum to web content. I especially enjoy writing projects that advance good causes and writing about language, especially the complexities of the English language.

Before settling in Calgary, I spent nine years travelling and teaching English in South Korea, West Berlin, and South America. I have a BA in history and a MEd in adult and community education. I also studied journalism at the Freie Universität in West Berlin.
